5 Fitness Gadgets That Actually Work And Won’t Swallow Your Money

People think home fitness equipments are the devil. They didn’t always think this, not in the beginning. Then they spend a few hundred dollars on something they’d seen on a late night television commercial. They were sold a big dream. A dream of an amazing body that will make them look better than ever before. A dream that will never come true. That’s because most of the gadgets you see are shockingly ineffective. People get them and realize nothing about their body has changed. The crooks who sold them the gadgets in the first place will tell them it’s their fault and they never worked hard enough.

But not every single one you buy is the devil. That’s where people get it wrong, which is pretty sad because they could get the body they always dreamed of if they bought an honest product. Not one that promised you the world and gave you peanuts. I guess you need to try to give fitness equipments another chance if you want to make some big improvements in your life. You won’t be sorry you did. You just need to research each product a bit more before you jump in. Let’s look at a few of them together to give you a little taste of what the good products are about.

Gymboss

Everyone now has a pretty good understanding of how you can burn a lot of calories and it’s not by going for a jog. You’re much better doing something at maximum effort, having a break then doing it all over again. When you do intervals like this, it’s important you have something you can use to keep the time. That’s why the Gymboss is so great. Set the intervals to any time you want and it will tell you when to stop and start.

Vibram FiveFingers

Can a pair of running shoes be classed as a gadget? I think the answer to that is a big yes. You only need to look at them to realize they are like no other running shoe. This all goes back to the way they used to live in the olden days. Apparently, there was no Nike or Adidas footwear with cushioned soles. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. When people went running, they would do it with bare feet. Your FiveFingers will mimic this.

A running watch

There are so many watches to choose from now and each one has special features that set it apart from the rest. Sometimes it’s just the look and feel. It doesn’t really matter which one you get as long as it has a few features. Measuring your heart rate is obvious. Tracking how far you ran and how long you took is also important. If you can find one in your price range that measures calories it’s even better.

Resistance bands

Someone found out that you could use resistance bands to overcome injuries and stretch a lot easier. They never gained too much popularity. Then someone came along and made them bigger so you could replicate proper gym exercises in your home. This encouraged more people to start using them and now some people don’t use anything else. They are handy for keeping around the home.

Kinect for your Xbox

This one will obviously require an Xbox and must be one of the greatest ways to stay fit you will ever see. You won’t win any marathons, but you will have to move your body about which is still going to help you stay healthy. You get to turn your entire body into a controller and you have to move if you want the characters in the game to move. You definitely won’t want to go to the gym when you can stay at home and play your game console.

10 Unique Search Engines That Serve Very Unique Purposes

10 Unique Search Engines That Serve Very Unique Purposes

So your Google searches just return slash-fiction, you find Bing far from beautiful, and Yahoo is, well, Yahoo. Where do you turn to find all that mega-specific information you needed for that witty blog post? Have no fear: we're here to help. Below is a list of 10 of the most obscure, specific, niche search engines available on the internet:

The Way Back Machine

Do you have an urge to see what The Guardian looked like in 2006? Or yearn to experience Yahoo as it was 16 years ago? Do you have a lot of free time on your hands? Then The Way Back Machine is for you. Essentially a collection of screen grabs since the dawn of time (or at least the internet), you can go back and catch-all those memes you missed the first time round. So nostalgic it hurts.

Blekko

If you're all about customization, Blekko is the place to be. On one level, it's a regular search engine. On another, it's a user-designed tech-gasm. Add your own sources; make use of their (slightly confusing) slashtag system to create an engine that is all about you. Impressed? We were.

Artcyclopedia

Now take a wild guess as to what this search engine could possibly do. If you said 'look up all artists and their work', you're both right and an idiot for answering a rhetorical question. Basically, the most-comprehensive artist database on the web, a search will return images, articles and – best of all – listings for galleries all over the world housing specific paintings.

Oh My God LOL!!!

Are you an objectively awful person? Do you still have icanhascheezburger bookmarked in your antique copy of IE 6? Check out ohmygodlol, a search engine devoted to dredging up 'funny' pics from all over the internet. Upside down cats, horses pulling faces, badly-spelled slogans, it's all here and it's all horrible. For those who cannot let an old meme die.

Wacko Search

A novel twist on the tired 'search engines finding what you were looking for' formula; Wacko Search deliberately sets out to supply you with the wrong answers. How delightfully quirky! You might be thinking, if you're a desiccated, soulless husk of a human being.

Chilling Effects

Finally, we emerge from the disease-ridden bowels of internet 'humor' to find something really useful. Chilling Effects tracks the attempts by angry, uptight people to silence internet free-speech, allowing you to search a particular subject-area and follow links to various resources. Also of interest is their regular 'weather report' measuring the barometer of online censorship. Chilling indeed.

Complete Planet

The 'front door to the deep web', Complete Planet allows you to search over 70,000 databases not indexed by ordinary search engines. Great for finding absurdly specific topical information you might not otherwise be able to access.

Horror Find

So it's Halloween and once again, you've failed to prepare anything. Luckily, Horror Find is here to help you find, well, take a wild guess. A not-very-vast database of all things creepy, kooky and spooky; featuring a design that looked cool once, in 1998, Horror Find is the last word in tacky.

Million Short

Now this is an ingenious idea: Million Short removes the first million search engine results, leaving you with the rarely indexed, the neglected, and the downright weird. At least, that's the idea. When we tried, searching for 'Red Dwarf' the first result was the official fan site: whether that's a testament to Million Short's uselessness or Red Dwarf's ever-declining popularity we can only guess.

Wolfram Alpha

An attempt to create a logical search engine dedicated to finding answers, Wolfram Alpha still has a long way to go. While typing in 'what is the meaning of life the universe and everything' gets you the single result '42' (good), typing in almost anything else just confuses the hell out of it (bad). Couple this with advertising even our adblocker can't dispose of and the whole set up begins to seem just a tad less impressive. Nice homepage though.

These blend of useful and bizarre search engines were seeked out by PrinterInks.com.

6 Pointless Inventions that Made a Mint

6 Pointless Inventions that Made a Mint

The process of inventing a product which can potentially make millions upon millions can sometimes be easier than you think. The computer, the microwave, cars, the CD….these are all feats of complex incredible pioneering that now make billions. However, on the flip side of that – there are many million dollar inventions which are so simple & pointless it makes you want to bang your head against a concrete wall for not thinking of it first. Here are a few of the top pointless inventions that made a mint.

A rock is a man's Best Friend

CC Via Flickr
In 1975, a man by the name of Gary Dahl manufactured, packaged, and managed the sales of a product which made him a millionaire in less than six months. Down to the products USP (unique selling point) and the next to nothing cost to produce, the figures sky rocketed for him. In six months it’s thought that Dahl made fifteen million dollars – which currently would be worth around fifty-six million dollars today. This truly is a 'stone' cold stunner!

The Snuggie

CC Via Flickr
Ingenious, or ludicrous – you decide! The ground-breaking product in question managed to gather around two hundred million dollars in revenue; and all it was….was a bathrobe which had been turned back to front. Unbelievable! Through clever advertisements which became a media sensation, the Snuggie took off in America – pleasing simple Americans everywhere.

Baby Toupee

CC Via Flickr
Who wouldn't want to give their baby a toupee? A toupee will provide a baby with a sense of dignity, class, prestige, and most of all; warmth. At twenty dollars a pop, this seemingly pointless product took off; bringing in millions for the manufacturer. Hopefully they sell a Bill Murray edition.

Slinky

CC Via Flickr
Everyone loves a slinky! Even though this is by far is one of the simplest inventions ever to be created, in its prime many households were without one. The slinky is basically a lazy spring, which may seem pointless & dumb on the outside – but the reality is that children love to play with anything simple and fun. In fact, the more simple and pointless it is – the more a child is to like it! For example, just imagine if someone sold tailored cardboard boxes for kids to play in….it would make millions!

Big Mouth Billy Bass

CC Via Flickr
The most pointless product you could think of; a plastic mounted fish which sings songs. This tacky gift was created in the late 90s, casting it out to the American public – reeling in the financial reward. However, people soon grew irritated at this terrible gift and it fizzled out in the 2000s. But at the end of the day, the product sold over seventy millions units before it became a fish out of water….

Doggles

CC Via Flickr
You got it; dog goggles. Of course this has been invented; by reading this list you should have gathered that anything is possible! For the price of eighty dollars you can make your dog look like he's about to swim the hundred meter final in the Olympics; perhaps someone could patent a dog swim hat too! However, the only people laughing are the manufactures – because they managed to take millions straight out of the average American dog lover's pocket. Woof!

In conclusion, as you can see here, not all inventions have to be ground breaking and life changing to make the big bucks. So, if you fancy making a quick million or so – all you need to do is invent the most stupid and pointless product you could think of, and you may be well on your way to the big leagues.

Should I Rent or Buy?

Should I Rent or Buy?

There is a lot of talk about which is better, renting or buying. Each has its disadvantages and advantages and neither solution is ideal for all situations. In general, renting is cheaper in the short-term, and buying is cheaper in the long-term. Though a buyer may pay twice as much for a home in the short-term, when the house is paid off, a buyer will pay nothing more aside from maintenance and taxes. The renter has to continue paying for the rest of their lives. Here are the reasons a person may buy, rent, or refrain from one or the other:

Benefits of Renting

Greater Flexibility

Renting allows greater flexibility than owning a home. If the right apartment is chosen, more money can be deposited in a savings account during the early years. Renting can help a person save to invest into a business or even to save for a down payment on a home. Renting also usually appeals to the transient community because the commitment is typically shorter than the commitment of buying a home.

Maintenance-Free

Maintenance is usually covered through the rental company. There is no need to invest into maintenance for the home because it is included. This saves the renter money and time. A person who is not ready for the responsibility of home ownership will appreciate a rental home.

No Agents' Fees or Stamp Duty Fees

Agents’ fees and stamp duty fees can be considerable if the home has to be sold at any point of home ownership. These fees do not exist with renting. Renters typically pay no fees if the home is left in the same condition that it was found when first occupied.

Not Tied to a Particular Location

If a particular location is not preferred, the rental agreement is typically only a year. Rental contracts do not have to be renewed if the renter doesn’t like the location or if the renter doesn’t like the property itself. Renting is preferable to people who want to try out a community before buying in it.

Benefits of Buying

Own an Appreciable Asset

Appreciable assets can be used for leverage or inheritance later in the future. Ownership is preferable because it is easier to obtain loans and build credit when buying a home than it is by renting.

Discounted Variable Mortgage Rates

In the USA, Variable mortgage rates are now 1.25 percent lower than they were in 2011. The fixed mortgage rates have been discounted by as much as 2.1 percent.

Disadvantages of Renting

Rent is Becoming More Expensive Than Buying

In some regions, such as 388 suburbs, renting can cost more than buying. Rental rates for houses have risen by up to 4.2 percent over the past year. Rental rates for apartments are 2.9 percent higher for units in capital cities. The rental market has become quite competitive, and the costs are more expensive. When the rental costs exceed the mortgage costs, there are few advantages to renting.

No Appreciable Asset to Leverage

At the end of the rental agreement, the apartment will be returned to its rightful owner. Renting does not provide an appreciable asset that can be used to borrow against nor does it typically serve as a tax deduction. Furthermore, when the house is paid off in the future, buyers can rest knowing that they own an asset that can offer financial flexibility.

Disadvantages of Buying

Long-Term Commitment

Home buying requires a long-term commitment. Some loans require up to 30 years. A person entering into a long-term contract must ensure that they like the home and the area. Selling a home before the mortgage is paid can result in losses if the economy is not good. Buyers must ensure they are prepared to incur losses before entering into a long-term contract.

Maintenance

Whether the home is new or old, the buyer is responsible for maintenance. These costs can add up over the ownership of the home. Every home owner must have money in reserve to cover the costs related to maintenance on a home, which could vary from year to year. If repairs to the plumbing or roof are needed, the costs could be considerable.

Rent or Buy: The Choice is Up Each Individual

Whether people rent or buy, the choice is entirely up to them. A home should only be purchased if it is within the budget. Saving for a down payment on a mortgage can significantly impede a person's lifestyle. Save for a home only when life can be sustained and enjoyed during savings.

LWP Property Group offer house and land packages for first homes buyers. Just be patient and perform the research necessary to find an affordable home whether renting or buying. This will prevent any problems in the future.
